What Is Wayang?
What is a Wayang? In Javanese, the word "Wayang" means "shadow". If viewed from the meaning of philosophy, "Wayang" can be interpreted as a shadow or a reflection of the properties that exist from within the human soul. The characteristics in question are such as temperament, anger, virtue, greed, and so on. Wayang are played by a "Dalang"(puppeteer) who is assisted by several gamelan musicians and one or two Waranggana as vocalists. The function of the Dalang (mastermind) here is to set the course of the show as a whole. The Dalang leads all the components of the performance to melt in the storyline presented.
